Specific Need
We have become a part of the Hiawatha Community Foundation to build funds for PARKS PROJECTS. Some of our goals are (in no specific order):
- Bruning Fields renovations, including leveling, field conditioner & grass maintenance as needed
- Aquatic Park fence upgrade, including realignment
- Relocation of Disc Golf Course to City Lake
- Starr Park renovation, including new playground equipment
- Addition of Pickle Ball Courts on Southeast Tennis Courts
- Bruning Facility makeover, including a new facility with updated accommodations for bathrooms, concessions & storage
- Addition of compliant sidewalks around Shelters at City Lake
- Addition of dog park on east lot of Starr Park

Since 2017, HP&R has provided a variety of programs, events & recreational opportunities for our community. Now it's time to focus on our PARKS!
HP&R oversees the Fisher Center, the Aquatic Park, the Skate Park, the Walking Trail, the City Lake, Crestview Park, Kiddie Korral, Starr Park, Noble Park and Bruning Park, as well as shares some responsibilities with USD 415 for the tennis courts. The potential for our parks continues to grow and outdoor recreation continues to be one of our top priorities!
Since 2017, the following improvements have been made at the following parks:
AQUATIC PARK:
Tropical Theme Paint/Decor (2019), New Facility Signage (2019), Repaint Mushroom (2019), Pool Floor Recoating/Paint (2019), Pool House Paint (2021),
New Loungers (2021), Replaced Diving Board (2023), Slide/Tower/Mushroom Repaint (2024)
SKATE PARK:
New Signage (2019), Ramps/Railings Paint (2023)
WALKING TRAIL:
Addition of Lighting (2019-2020), New Landscape around Rest Areas (2018, 2020, 2022, 2023)
CITY LAKE:
Replaced All Grills (2019), New Paint on Shelters (2020, 2022), Playground Paint (2020), Sand Volleyball Court Renovation (2019-2022),
Repainted Picnic Tables (2018, 2020, 2022), Addition of Scout Swing (2022)
CRESTVIEW PARK:
Addition of Rubber Mulch in Play Area (2020 & 2022), Added Court Lines (2022)
KIDDIE KORRAL:
Replaced Canopy due to Damage (2019)
STARR PARK:
Repainted all Benches and Equipment (2019), Added Court Lines (2020)
NOBLE PARK:
New Sod (2019), New Sprinkler System (2021), Added Field Conditioner (2021), Replaced Damaged Right Field Wall (2021-2022), Replaced some Lighting (2022)
BRUNING:
Yellow Topper Added to C (2018), New Batting Cages (2019 & 2020), Added Field Conditioner to all Fields (2020 & 2021), Remodeled Concessions (2021), Replaced some Lighting (2022), Installed New Score Boards (2023), Remodeled Crow’s Nest (2023)
